2006, still

And to cap it off, some random things. I don't think any of these actually went anywhere important, they were just the assorted things I thought about all day.

8/15ths of a Bear in Love
This is interesting...I'm not sure what makes me think he's in love, and I can say with reasonable confidence that even if bears were easily broken down into fractions, there's probably less than half a bear there.

Hey, here he is again in cardboard, for no particular reason.
I still like this 2 heady goatish dude.

Random things and stuff.

Self-portrait for my senior thesis project, I like how this worked out.

Some sort of bacon-related superhero? Also, this was still during the period where I was lopping limbs off characters because of laziness + lack of skill, rather than laziness + actual interest.

I wish I could say I've matured since then, buuuuut... Also, this is a major factor in why I don't eat kiwi.

I'd just discovered the truly impressive creepiness of Soul Dolls, and the insane levels of SRSNSS girls take these things, which prompted me to draw a KFC based doll dude.

The dude came out kinda meh, but the Col Monoclecat is still one of my favorites.

Since I'm organizing the 2006 folder...

I will post more things from days gone by! I'm not sure what I was doing in 06, although, from the looks of things, flashcards figured heavily into my daily life.

I found a deck of oversized vintage math cards at an antique store in Hopkins, MN with the vague idea that I'd eventually use them for something if they laid around in my apt for long enough. I'm a heavy subscriber to this theory, and the small shrines to random crap scattered throughout my house can attest.

Most of these were sold in the Pixelgirl Shop or on ebay. I have a few cards left, and they're hanging out near enough to my desk that I may just accidentally paint something on them in the near future.

Zooombie boooobs!! I really don't like zombies in general, but I have to admit, this made me laugh.

...Thought So.

I really like the Panty Pirate. I'm not sure why, but the idea of a big wad of goo with panties embedded in him sailing the seven seas just works for me.

Appealing!!!

Boobbears are very frowny creatures, for no reason in particular.

Blind Eye Bunny, which I *think* is a reference to Beatrix Potter's Benjamin Bunny...did Farmer MacGregor poke one of his eyes out? Maybe I am imagining things.

I can't remember if I ever gave the 'Playing Good' cat a name, come to think of it. I know that the bad shoulder kitty is Mali Auctor, and presumably the good one is Bonum Auctor, but no name for the actual cat. Oops.

And to cap it off, a rare smiley boobbear I painted for a friend. Aww!

An Eggplant in Angeland

Finally finished! I'd forgotten how long it takes me to put the finishing touches on a painting. What should be the quickest part I somehow manage to drag out for an absurdly long time.

I really thought I had a sketch of some sort for this painting, but I guess not. Man do I suck at planning ahead. I found the canvas in a pile of canvases I started painting and then abandoned, and just started slapping down color.

I did these first two shots in a couple hours. I think I had wanted to keep this one somewhat clean and pastel, which of course was overcome in the end by my love of dry brushing and dark colors.

Everything up until this point was painted with one of the crappiest, oldest brushes I have, because I like it like that. Actually, most of the stuff after this point was painted with this brush, too.

Starting to put in details...

And baa-naaa! Painting! There may have been a few more steps in there, but I forgot to photograph them, so feel free to imagine whatever you like.

Stop crying, Otacon!

Poor Otacon, it's not easy being the designated trauma character. I'd like to point out to any storywriters out there that a little trauma goes a long way. Killing everyone your guy's ever taken one too many lingering looks at is good characterization for your genocidal maniacs, not so much the sad nerds.

I feel ya, dude.

SNAKE WHAT ARE YOU DOING OVER THERE CUT IT OUT WE'RE ON A MISSION HERE.
Why was there a parrot in a top secret weapons development lab? Seems....stupid.
Aww.
Frowns all around!

Some old FLCL sketch action

I think all these sketches are from early 2000-something, right after the fandubs started floating around Hotwire. This was the series that made me feel like animation might actually be worthwhile again, afterall. Not that it actually had any effect on my animation plans (or rather, total lack thereof) personally, but still. What a fantastic series.

It's the moment when Ninamori sticks her finger through the glasses that will always stand out as one of my top animated moments, ever.

The Title Would Suggest his Name is 'Icarus'

NOT 'Pit', which frankly, is dumb. I was a big fan of Pit, though, even in horribly obnoxious form on Captain N. Plus, the Eggplant Wizard makes no sense at all and is one of the best game villians ever.
I love how whenever a game needs a color scheme for player 2, they're usually given a ManTan and the worst color scheme the devs could come up with, OR they get to be 'evil' colors. I'd go with the evil, personally.

Why am I Drawing Strawberry Shortcake Fanart?

I believe the official answer to that question was 'Because I'm Stupid." Regardless, at some point there I was really into SSC, for about 5 minutes. I never could get into it as a kid, altho I will admit, I really loved that the plastic mini-dolls were scented. I had one that was fucking pumpkin. That is some serious dedication to the art of making plastic smell like stuff. I think the two on the left are Peach or Apricots or something, and the other is Angel Cake, despite cake not actually, technically, being a fruit. Maybe she was the exchange student or something, I dunno. '04
IT'S A MYSTERY. '04

Dude, half the cast of SSC has bitchin' dreads. '04 I dunno, the whole deal still strikes me as weird, and that's not even getting into the Pieman guy. '08

More 2004 stuff

Still trying to get my old stuff uploaded before I start on the new. Also, the new doesn't actually exist yet, so you know. Filler.

I really liked the Angry Beavers! Come on, Norbert was so fucking smooth. How can you not be into him. Also, 'All Rude Dog, All the Time' = words to live by.

FUCKING MC GRUFF THE CRIME DOG.

And some random crap.

Did I Do Anything...?

I forgot I used to make wallpapers like nobody's business, too. Did I ever have homework, or what?

Some more old sketches

2004 - Holy, I must not have paid any attention in any of my classes...I remember drawing all of this when I should have been learning about the Impressionist Era or someshit.

I actually wore one gigantic pirate earring for a couple months there. I have no idea why, other than I got it on sale for $5. I finally lost the thing when it my ear kicked it out in shame.

Tea slushies are pretty much the best idea in the universe, even more so if they're of the Long Island variety. Why this amazing beverage doesn't yet exist is beyond me. And Crystal Light ones don't count, so don't even suggest it.

I really like that bunny on the right. I feel like we could relate.

I love it when I come across drawings that are clearly not my style. I had literally just found a style I was happy with for the first time ever, and I was still trying to be something I clearly wasn't. WTF? I'm glad I grew out of that shit, more or less.

Little Wooden Do-bobbies

I made little wooden guys for a couple people, and now I have a bunch of extra wooden thingies floating around my house. I suppose I could make stuff with them, but EH. LAZY.

I love this guy cause you can set him by anything and he will be absolutely appalled by it.

I've noticed that my characters tend to be VERY ANGRY ARGHHHHHHH.

How did you climb that tree without any limbs? Curious!

What's awesome about me is, I took this picture in wet grass, never thinking that the watercolor I painted the damn thing with would SMEAR WHEN WET. Dar.

Kenshins New and Old!

Somewhere in college I read (well ok skimmed) the gigantic Kenshin epic, and of course found him to be SO adorable. How can you not? He's so tiny and polite and could seriously murder you and everyone you know if the need arose.
I remember doodling this in my comic class sketchbook in 04, I think. He's right, I never got the hang of comics as a medium for conveying anything other than dick jokes. Look, I enjoy a good dutch angle as much as the next person, but I think they cap out at about 30 degrees. '04. Kenshin, succumbing to the final stages of girl-hair. I must have had one of those terrible cream colored sketchbooks at some point. '04. And finally, some new sketches I did while watching clips on youtube this evening. He's still so damn cute.
