Restraints I

I've been commissioned a few times to rework old pieces, and it's one of those things that I would never do on my own, but am always really pleased with when it happens. I like to forget about everything I make the instant paint dries. Soooooo, projects like this are probably really good for me.

I may have to do more of this series, I really like how this one turned out.

The original painting, from 2005, I think. I clearly remember it being one of the first Official Paintings I did, since it was on an actual canvas. It was also supposed to be part of a series of some sort, but instead was turned into...

this wallpaper. Man, back in the day of small squarey monitors. Feelin' old!

This dude was also used in a logo for a UK film co around 2006. The actual logo is long lost to hard drive death and my general failure at preserving anything, but I do still have a few related sketches.

Hallmark oldsters

YEAH still moving stuff over here. I used to sketch A LOT, apparently!

This was my Xmas card one year. It still applies.

This guy's name is Mali Auctor, which essentially means 'mischief maker', for what that's worth.

HONK HONK.

The explanation of this on my site was that he was 'a Cupid, fired for falling in love with a horse', which is a mystery to me. I do love Cupid in all his classical portrayals, though.

These are from an awesome, terrible comic I actually turned in for a grade my senior year, long after I'd stopped caring or trying to keep up appearances. My teacher seemed to understand this, and interestingly, it was one of the most educational classes in my entire college career.

Embarassing Fanart

Yami No Matsuei is solid terrible fangirl fanservice pretty much nonstop, but oooohhhhh, I watched it. I tried to read it, but the artwork is so hideously flowery and sparkly I just couldn't hang.

One thing about this series that IS totally awesome is that the main villain dude was keeping his brother's severed head floating around in a big jar, so that one day he can bring his brother back to life, and then kill him. That's the best needlessly complex utterly pointless plan ever.

Liking Carmen Sandiego isn't that embarrassing; everybody played it in grade school, and who doesn't love Rockapella's stirring rendition of the game show theme? Butttt...I've never actually played the game. I'd always just kind of appreciated it in theory. In my defense, I am utterly weak against the gentleman thief/outlaw detective archetype. I HEART THEM ALL.

And oh yes, I watched the fairly terrible Saturday morning cartoon.

I think ReBoot was pretty decent for what it was and when it was made. Hex holds up as a quality villain, for instance. At least she did, until the whole series went completely batshit early in season 4. Still though, I've driven through Kitsilano and felt a nerdy little thrill over it.
Nar.

Growing up with Great Danes, I sort of feel like I have to love Scooby Doo
. It was a pretty terrible show, though, let's not kid ourselves.

Kimi Wa Pet (Tramps Like Us in the US, for some reason) is actually pretty good, and I still like it. But it's a cutesty romantic comedy, which is a weird thing for me to be enjoying.

The history of Inguen

Hangin' out, drinkin' some Orbitz. Was I the only person who liked that..?
Jonathan is, of course, fast friends with the Hentai Tentacle Death Bunnies. Despite his being "OMG MY" character, I only really drew Jon like, 5 or 6 times, tops. This is reason #zillion why I'm glad I didn't go into animation.
Wallpaper showing off John's official outfit. He's wearing the donkey head (and later just the ears) in homage to Lampwick. As everyone knows, if you spend all day screwing around and drawing nads, you turn into a donkey!
This was the first ever official drawing of Jonathan, as part of my site layout. He was missing the top of his ring finger, like my 7th grade art teacher, Mr. Jorgenson, who liked to slap his hand down on the projector so we could all really get a good look at it, and take his warnings about not screwing with the paper cutter seriously.

Ang St. Ie

Angst Practice
Ang Saint. Ie, (LOL ANGSTY, GET IT) pulled from the Angst Practice painting, which I think was the first thing I ever painted in acrylic. Making fun of shit right from the start! CLEARLY I AM GOING TO GO FAR IN ART. Also, he's so emo that he NEVER OPENS HIS EYES. Oh yeah. Beat that, teenagers! All his tattoos are based on obnoxiously happy 1950's children's toys. If I ever get a sleeve done, it's going to be like that.

Misc stuff from misc years...

I guess this is all from 2004-05...ish? I think? I grabbed it off my website, which I've been neglecting with all my might since 06, so definitely before then.

Panty Pirate being serenaded by the Spiderman Chorus, which is like a Greek Chorus, except stupid.

I need to start drawin' the ol' HTDBs again. There's something about them I just can't help but enjoy.

PAGE OF HAMSTERS

Self-portrait I never finished because hey, finishing stuff is harrrrrrrd.

Just a random page of stuff.

Salty the Albino Candy Cane with the Heart that's Black Like Night was actually a last-last-last-no-effort-whatsoever Halloween costume. Basically, I had a pale pink obi, and it seemed reasonable to wrap it around white long johns and call it a costume.

This may well be my favorite drawing, ever.
