oooh colors

I've somehow amassed a ridiculous collection of Copic markers over the years, but I've never actually used them for anything. Luckily, the guilt has finally gotten to me, and I'm trotting them out now, sketchbook style.

2008 Miscellany Paintingy

I think this about covers the 2008 miscellaneous paintings, it really wasn't a great year for me artwise. Too busy trying to gain competency with Illustrator and design and fashion and not chuck the whole thing in for a job in a Civil War reenactment troupe. Which I am still considering.

This little dude is a ninja flying squirrel, and total badass I made for my friend Jennifer...I believe he's her spirit animal. At least, there's definitely a spiritual connection there.

This lady was for my buddy Ryan. I'm not sure that a hot naked lady is necessarily his spirit animal, but hey, can't go wrong with hot chicks, amirite?

This is for and is a character of my lovely lady pal, Ip2much. She makes the most amazing crocheted characters, but since I am totally inept at handicrafts I make paintings of her dudes.

Flantasm (flan phantasm, DUH) for my good bud Michelle, who is a professional maker of cute things. I feel it's important I make her stuff to remind her what path not to go down. Plus, she likes balls and bad puns too!

This dude was just randomly for a show, but somebody bought it, so let's just say it was for that mystery person. Hope you like it, random dude/ette!

It's probably rough being Link

Aside from being doomed to save the same dumb princess and the same dumb kingdom every two weeks for the rest of eternity, it seems like poor Link suffers a pretty high number of minor indignities from townsfolk and monsters, to boot.

You STILL haven't finished my potion? HOW MUCH LATER DO I HAVE TO COME BACK???

Watch where you grab, watch where you grab!

Misc stuff from misc years...

I guess this is all from 2004-05...ish? I think? I grabbed it off my website, which I've been neglecting with all my might since 06, so definitely before then.

Panty Pirate being serenaded by the Spiderman Chorus, which is like a Greek Chorus, except stupid.

I need to start drawin' the ol' HTDBs again. There's something about them I just can't help but enjoy.

PAGE OF HAMSTERS

Self-portrait I never finished because hey, finishing stuff is harrrrrrrd.

Just a random page of stuff.

Salty the Albino Candy Cane with the Heart that's Black Like Night was actually a last-last-last-no-effort-whatsoever Halloween costume. Basically, I had a pale pink obi, and it seemed reasonable to wrap it around white long johns and call it a costume.

This may well be my favorite drawing, ever.

I feel like this is from 2004

I'm moving the sketchbook part of my site here, which means super old art! Also, holy shit embarrassing. I think this is around the time I decided I was going to learn to color stuff digitally. As you can see, this endeavour was met with limited success.

Unfinished self-portrait for something. I really like the sound effect 'hurf'.

The original Inguen mascot, this is pretty much a life drawing of an antique nightlight I own, but do not under any circumstances, use.
I've kind of always really liked deer and weird facial expressions.

I'd say I'm also pretty partial to brown.

Check out that default Photoshop brush action!

This is the only thing I've ever been able to make work in openCanvas. I love the idea of the program, and I love what other people seem to be able to do with it, but I seriously cannot make it obey me.

A piece of fanart I did for some webcomic that I sort of liked at some point. I can't remember what it was about, but I think this guy was an anthropomorphic lobster, which is pretty ballsy.

Bad Idea

I actually forgot what I officially titled this, but I think that's probably pretty close. This one's for the And We All Fall Down show at Monkeyhouse in Silverlake. There were a couple little paintings I did for the show, too, but I forgot to photograph them. Nar.

Still not making any progress planning out my paintings! Yeah!

Attacking the canvas with spray paint seemed like a good place to start.

I was really set on using totally bad colors for the monsters, for some reason. Also, trying to draw on spray paint sucks. I couldn't find a grease pencil. As usual. I don't know where those things all go.

At this point my color sense kicked in and convinced me to use something a little more complimentary.

And that's it!

And the show was fucking amazing. Naturally I managed to not photograph half of it, as I am awesome.

2006 Fanart, or: Behind the Times as Usual

I really like fanart, even though I don't do a ton of it myself. The problem I have is that I'm always either 3 or 4 years behind the general public, oooooor drawing things from any random number of years past.
You know when the boys are out busting, Janine and Slimer totally get it on.
Am I the only person on earth who's read or watched Cybersix? I realize it was only on for like 2 weeks, but come on, it was rad. Cross-deressing main character lady, 6 year old evil Nazi bad guy, long-lost brother trapped in the body of a panther. You know, entertainment. Plus, the animation was amazing. Somehow an Argentinian comic got greenlighted for movie-quality animation. I feel like that would never happen now a days and it's a huge fucking shame. I was always a fan of Cleo from the Heathcliff show. Living in a sweet Caddy, wearing those hot legwarmers, dating an obvious pimp, what a life!
I think Death Note had the fastest crash landing of anything I've ever read. It went from impressively original and interesting to complete idiot 16 yr old girl fanservice disaster in one page. Oh well.

2006, still

And to cap it off, some random things. I don't think any of these actually went anywhere important, they were just the assorted things I thought about all day.

8/15ths of a Bear in Love
This is interesting...I'm not sure what makes me think he's in love, and I can say with reasonable confidence that even if bears were easily broken down into fractions, there's probably less than half a bear there.

Hey, here he is again in cardboard, for no particular reason.
I still like this 2 heady goatish dude.

Random things and stuff.

Self-portrait for my senior thesis project, I like how this worked out.

Some sort of bacon-related superhero? Also, this was still during the period where I was lopping limbs off characters because of laziness + lack of skill, rather than laziness + actual interest.

I wish I could say I've matured since then, buuuuut... Also, this is a major factor in why I don't eat kiwi.

I'd just discovered the truly impressive creepiness of Soul Dolls, and the insane levels of SRSNSS girls take these things, which prompted me to draw a KFC based doll dude.

The dude came out kinda meh, but the Col Monoclecat is still one of my favorites.
